Family Caregiver Services
and Resource Center


Caring for an older adult can be rewarding but also challenging. Caregiver support services are available to assist family caregivers.

Trained staff are available to assist caregivers in locating resources. Local caregiver resource centers offer books, directories, pamphlets videos and audiotapes on a variety of caregiver topics. NIAAA Resource Center

Caregiver Training and Education
Caregiver Information and Assistance
Workshops and training opportunities are available for caregivers who need to learn new skills to care for a family member. Workshops and training opportunities are offered at times and locations convenient to caregivers.

Emergency Services
Emergency help is available to pay for items caregivers need to provide better care to their loved ones, such as medical needs, bath benches, home medical equipment and supplies, minor home renovation and repairs, transportation, and other needs.

Respite Care
Funds are available to help pay for respite care to give eligible caregivers a brief period of relief or rest. Homemaker, adult day care or temporary nursing home placement is available on a short-term basis for older adults with physical or mental impairment. Respite may be skilled or unskilled depending on the need of the care recipient. Funds are for temporary relief and not intended to replace ongoing care.

Support Groups
Caregivers deal with a variety of issues in the process of taking care of a loved one. Many often feel overwhelmed in their caregiving tasks and need to find ways to cope with their stress. Caregiver support groups are available to help caregivers cope, learn from their peers and obtain support.
