| Emergency
Assistance
NIAAA funds emergency assistance (gap filling service) to meet the needs
of grandparents over the age of 60 raising grandchildren. Grandparents
raising grandchildren often have needs that cannot be met through existing
programs and services. Gap filling service can only be used when community
resources are unavailable or insufficient or when a senior/caregiver has
applied for service and is waiting to receive benefits. Supportive services
(gap filling services) provide a safety net of essential help for temporary
and essential medical, housing, legal, homemaker and other assistance
as needed.
Grandparents
over the age of 60 who are raising grandchildren and have a temporary
emergency need are eligible. Contact the local I&A
agency in your county.
Education
and Training
Grandparent forums, conferences and other educational programs are available
at various times throughout the year. Contact the local I&A
agency listed in this directory or NIAAA for information on training
and educational programs. Contact the NIAAA
office to be placed on the mailing list for training and education opportunities.
Respite
Respite care is available on a temporary, short-term basis to give grandparents
over the age of 60 a break from caregiving. Respite is available through
licensed day camp and programs. Grandparents age 60 may be eligible. Contact
NIAAA or your local I&A agency
or case management agency.
