NIAAA publishes several guides and directories providing information for older adults, caregivers and professionals. Whether you need information on in-home care, prescription assistance, assisted living facilities, or other housing, etc., we have a directory that might be helpful.

To get a publication, click on the title below. (You must have Adobe Acrobat which is available for free by clicking here.) Printed copies of each of these publications are available from the NIAAA office.  Since we do not charge a fee for these publications, donations are welcome to help us cover our printing costs.

The NIAAA Service Provider Manual contains information to assist NIAAA grant funded organizations in providing services.
Home care involves much more than a homemaker or CNA coming to your home to provide care. In this guide you will find information on a mobile doctor program, emergency response systems, home delivered meals, hiring a private caregiver, and more. Of course, a list of licensed in-home care agencies and the services they provide is included.
Assisted Living, Supportive Living or Sheltered Care provide housing and support for those who cannot live on their own independently, but yet are not ready to move into a nursing home. Each facility in our nine counties has a one-page description of their facility, services and fees. Other information will guide you in how to choose a facility that meets your needs.
Inside this directory you will find information and resources to help you or a loved one affected with Alzheimer’s disease. Memory diagnostic clinics, Alzheimer’s Associations, support groups, legal concerns, behavioral issues and tips, and much more are addressed in this directory.

If you are looking for a long-term care facility for yourself or a loved one in northwestern Illinois, check this guide for helpful information. It provides helpful information on choosing a facility, paying for care, and a checklist allowing you to compare among three facilities. Each facility in northwestern Illinois has it’s own one-page listing of services and fees.

Need help paying for your medications? This guide provides information on a host of programs and ways to save on your prescription costs. The Medicare Prescription Drug Program, IL Cares Rx, Veterans’ Assistance, Manufacturer Indigent Programs, and much more are discussed, along with safety tips and communicating with your doctor about your medications.
